In Genesis 38, Johan Schep walks through one of the most striking chapters in the life of Judah. Judah leaves his brothers, chooses his friends carelessly, and marries outside the covenant. His choices bring sorrow upon his house, and the consequences run deep.

Yet this is also the chapter of Tamar, and of the moment of repentance that changes Judah’s life. Out of this story, two sons are born whose names appear in the genealogy of the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 1.
